Music Users

What is a dispute?

From time to time a music user has an issue with APRA AMCOS that has not been resolved after direct discussions. At that time it may be useful to get assistance. If you are the member of a professional association that is a starting point. It is also useful to have a designated safe space and the assistance of a neutral person to guide those involved on the options to move forward.

Resolution Pathways provides a resolution facilitator. The facilitator's role is to assist all participants in the dispute to prepare and use the appropriate process to resolve the dispute. There is also a committee established to advise the facilitator and ensure that the pathways meet the needs of those who use it and that the facilitator is responsive to the market.

The choice of pathways include:

  • Mediation
a process in which the expert assist in having a constructive conversation.
  • Expert Processes
where an expert in the subject matter of the dispute can provide a view which is non-binding or a decision which is binding.

There is a Committee to ensure that the system meets the needs of those who use it and will guide the dispute facilitator in being responsive to the market.

We are also working on a project called ‘Peer Assist' which will give music creators access to peers who can advise, guide or give them a view on issues.
